Eye Exams
Taking care of your eyes is essential for maintaining good vision and overall eye health. Even if you think your eyesight is fine, many eye conditions, like glaucoma or macular degeneration, can develop without noticeable symptoms. Thankfully, regular eye exams can help detect these conditions as early as possible.
Here at Advanced Eyecare Associates, we’re committed to helping you keep your eyes healthy with thorough, personalized eye exams that catch potential problems sooner rather than later.
What to expect during your eye exam
At our clinic, a typical comprehensive eye exam lasts between 40 and 60 minutes. During your exam, our friendly and knowledgeable optometrists will guide you through several tests to get a complete picture of your eye health.
Visual acuity test
This checks how clearly you see at different distances.
Refraction test
This helps us determine the right prescription for your glasses or contact lenses.
Topography
This provides a detailed map of your cornea to detect any irregularities or conditions like keratoconus.
Optomap retinal screening
This involves a wide-angle image of the retina that helps us catch early signs of issues like glaucoma or macular degeneration.
(While there’s a small additional fee for this test, it’s worth it for the peace of mind.)
How often should you have an eye exam?
Most adults should schedule a comprehensive eye exam every 1-2 years. If you have an existing eye condition or a family history of eye issues, we might recommend more frequent visits.
Advanced eye exams for more detailed care
For those who require a deeper look into their eye health, we’re happy to offer advanced eye exams. These appointments are typically around 60 minutes, and include additional testing such as Optomap retinal screenings and digital retinal imaging. While we don’t offer OCT (optical coherence tomography) during advanced exams, we can arrange for it if needed to provide a more detailed view of your retina.
