OCT & Optomap

At our practice, we prioritize your eye health with advanced diagnostics, utilizing the latest advancements in technology. One of the key tools we use is optical coherence tomography (OCT).

What is OCT?

An OCT scan is a sophisticated imaging technique that captures high-resolution, cross-sectional images of the retina and other internal structures of the eye. By providing detailed visualization, we gain early insights into eye health, facilitating timely diagnosis and effective management of eye conditions. This non-invasive eye scan typically takes between 2 to 5 minutes, depending on the number of scans required.

How does it work?

Using light waves, the OCT scan creates detailed images that allow us to visualize the layers of the retina and assess their health. We use the ZEISS CIRRUS 6000 with AngioPlex technology, which provides precise assessments for various conditions, including macular degeneration, retinal disease, diabetic eye disease, and glaucoma detection. It also helps determine corneal thickness and is useful for fitting scleral lenses.

Who should consider an OCT scan?

Our comprehensive eye exams will determine when an OCT scan is appropriate. We recommend an OCT scan for patients with specific concerns or a family history of eye conditions.

Why get an OCT scan?

An OCT scan provides unparalleled insight into the health of your eyes by revealing detailed images of the retinal layers. The ability to view these layers helps in the early detection of potential problems, allowing for timely intervention and better management of your eye health. Additionally, the detailed images are invaluable when referring patients to an ophthalmologist for further evaluation or specialized treatment.

Our Optomap technology

In addition to OCT, we use the California Optomap for a thorough retinal health check. This advanced technology captures up to 200 degrees of the retina in a single capture without dilation.
